On 1st September we were very honoured to welcome Councillor Dave Durdan, Chairman of the Somerset Playing Fields' Association to Woolavington to officially open our refurbished play area in the Lower Playing Field.

Fortunately the weather was fine and sunny and a good crowd gathered to witness the cutting of the ribbon.

Woolavington was well represented in the Village Hall shortly afterwards to hear the results of the Somerset Playing Fields' Association Field of the Year Competition. The Lower Playing Field had been entered in the smaller play area section and the Sportsfield at Sedgemoor Way had been entered in the section for larger fields. Fields throughout Historic Somerset enter the Competition including those in North Somerset and Bath and North East Somerset. We were therefore delighted when it was announced that our new play area had been voted the top play area in Somerset and had been awarded the June Wood trophy for 2015!

The Sportsfield also received an award in their class - a Highly Commended Certificate - and we were pleased to learn that it has been recognised as amongst the best in Somerset. There are plans being drawn up to improve the facilities in the Sportsfield so maybe a higher award may be forthcoming in future years!
